Demo Plant Operator

The role of this position is to learn and operate the desired functions of the Pilot and Demo plant. This includes but not limited to the following description: Be able to develop, test and evaluate multiple production scenarios to optimize production process. Make high quality sugars that meet or exceed expectations in a volume requested by our customers. The facility is to be kept at a high level of cleanliness and professionalism and it is a significant job function for operators.

Responsibility:

  • · Be involved and help drive the evaluation, testing , operation and optimization efforts.
  • · Able to read PID’s and trace lines to understand how systems are put together.
  • · Able to effectively trouble shoot problems in the plant.
  • · Maintain the plant in a high level of cleanliness and appearance as it is needs to be tour ready at all times .
  • · Offer insights to process improvements, as well as process efficiency and quality.
  • · Operate PC based control systems and have some experience with Variable Frequency Drives.
  • · Operate and maintain equipment to manufacturer specifications and perform light maintenance as required.
  • · Develop and adapt standard operating procedures for all plant components as needed.
  • · Exhibit a strong safety attitude and always work in a safe manner.
  • · Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change.
  • · Provide a base understanding of plant electrical control and instruments
  • · Aggressive nature in learning operations and support skills
  • · Ability to work flexible hours and OT as required.
  • · Maintain plant vehicle, forklift and boom lift. Operate the same in a safe and professional manner once trained.
  • · Maintain all process paperwork required to optimize the process and quality of the product at high standards.
  • · Operate various lab and demo plant equipment in order to produce necessary samples for customers including pretreatment, liquid/solid separations, enzymatic hydrolysis and evaporation.

Position Requirements:

  • · High school graduate
  • · Process operation or similar education or training a strong plus
  • · Maintenance and equipment skills a plus
  • · Knowledge of biomass and cellulosic processes a plus
  • · A minimum of 5 years plant experience in an industrial environment.
  • · Knowledge of biomass and cellulosic processes a plus
  • · A minimum of 2 years plant experience in an industrial environment.
  • · Experience working independently and as a team a requirement
  • · Ability to manage priority and time for maximum effectiveness
  • · Flexible during times of change
  • · Strong written and oral skills
  • · Must be able to learn, understand and apply new systems and technologies
  • · Strong interpersonal skills
  • · Other requirements as determined by the manager

Work Conditions:

  • · Overtime or alternate work hours may be required to meet project/process deadlines.
  • · Sitting for extended periods possible but infrequent
  • · Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate PLC, equipment and laptop needed.
  • · Physically be able to participate in all training including safety.
  • · Standing and physically active for extended periods while operating the plant
  • · Hot and cold environments will be expected with some dusty conditions at certain frequencies
  • · Must be able to wear all PPE as required while at work
  • · Uniforms will be provided
